Project Overview

My project traces the trajectory and dynamics of translations from Yiddish into Ukrainian—across poetry, fiction, and nonfiction—throughout the twentieth century, with particular attention to the Soviet period. It investigates the key actors involved in these translation and publishing initiatives—publishers, editors, and translators—and examines the cultural and political factors that shaped the intensity of this activity over time. By approaching the material through this lens, the project identifies the individuals and institutions that built cultural bridges between the two literatures and the forms of cooperation they fostered. Ultimately, it aims to deepen our understanding of Yiddish–Ukrainian literary interaction and to contribute to broader discussions in translation studies, transnational cultural history, and Soviet literary exchange.
